Victor Paul Wierwille was a Bible scholar and teacher for over four decades.

By means of Dr. Wierwille's dynamic teaching of the accuracy and integrity of God's Word, foundational class and advanced class graduates of Power for Abundant Living have learned that the one great requirement for every student of the Bible is to rightly divide the Word of Truth. Thus, his presentation of the Word of God was designed for students who desire the in-depth-accuracy of God’s Word.

In his many years of research, Dr. Wierwille studied with such men as Karl Barth, E. Stanley Jones, Glenn Clark, Bishop K.C. Pillai, and George M. Lamsa. His formal training included Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Theology degrees from Mission House (Lakeland) College and Seminary. He studied at the University of Chicago and at Princeton Theological Seminary from which he received a Master of Theology degree in Practical Theology. Later he completed his work for the Doctor of Theology degree.

Dr. Wierwille taught the first class on Power for Abundant Living in 1953.

Books by Dr. Wierwille include: Are the Dead Alive Now? published in 1971; Receiving the Holy Spirit Today published in 1972; five volumes of Studies in Abundant Living— The Bible Tells Me So (1971), The New, Dynamic Church (1971), The Word's Way (1971), God's Magnified Word (1977), Order My Steps in Thy Word (1985); Jesus Christ Is Not God (1975); Jesus Christ Our Passover (1980); and Jesus Christ Our Promised Seed (1982).

Dr. Wierwille researched God's Word, taught, wrote, and traveled worldwide, holding forth the accuracy of God's "wonderful, matchless" Word.

SUMMARY KEYWORDS: ship, God, Jesus, apostles, serving, disciples, Egypt, called

I want you to take your Bibles tonight and turn to the Gospel of Mark chapter three. There is a verse of scripture there that has impressed itself deeply on my heart and life. It reminds me of the record in the Old Testament, when the children of Israel were sent forth out of Egypt, into the promised land. I've never quite figured out I guess I could when only take me a couple of minutes, I suppose, to figure out exactly how far it is, from Egypt, into the holy land where they crossed the Jordan and went in into Jericho and crossed over into the holy land at that point. I do not know. I've just never measured, but I would guess, from just picturing the holy land. And that area, in my mind right now on the maps, I'd say maybe 6070 miles at the most, wouldn't you? I don't think it was much more than that. And you know how long those children of Israel wandered around till they finally got there. 40 years, that's a long time to wander around to travel 6070, even 100 miles, right. But for 40 years, they wandered in the wilderness. And many times, you'll wonder why didn't they go directly? Why didn't they move in? It wasn't because God wasn't willing. It was because they could not believe. And that whole group that moved out of Egypt, and wandered in the wilderness with those who left Egypt, with the exception of Joshua and Caleb, all of them died in the wilderness. I'm not speaking about the children that were born, I'm speaking about all of those who left Egypt and wandered in the wilderness for 40 years. They all died with the exception of Joshua, and Caleb. In that new generation that was built, there was there were men and women who believed and they were the ones who were allowed to cross over into the promised land. The point that I'm trying to think through and share with you is that God had told the children of Israel that he would leave them with a pillar of fire by night, and a cloud by day, remember, the cloud by day would be over the people, and the pillar of fire would be over them by night. And he had said that this was his presence over them, so that the enemy could not come nigh on to them. Then he told them something else in the Old Testament that intrigues me. He told them, that whenever the cloud moved, they were to get their things together and move forward. When the cloud stood still, they were to stand still. When it moved, they moved, when it stopped, they stopped. And when you sit down and think it through, it's kind of become sort of facetious, in one sense sort of humorous. To think it took them 40 years to go from Egypt, into the promised land, they must have sat still most of the time. Now, in Mark, in chapter three, verse nine, we better begin reading with verse seven already. Jesus withdrew himself with his disciples to the sea. And a great multitude from Galilee followed him in from Judea, verse eight of Mark Three, and from Jerusalem, and from it Amaya, and from beyond the Jordan, and they about Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, when they had heard what great things he did came on to him. And he spoke to His disciples that a small ship should wait on Him. Because of the multitude less they should throng him. Or he healed many in so much that they pressed upon him, for to touch him, as many as had plagues. And unclean spirits when they saw him fell down before him crying. Thou art the Son of God. This record in verse nine is what intrigued me. A small ship should wait on him.

04:55

Can you imagine? A ship a small ship now not a war ship or a battleship, but just some little boat, big enough for two or three or four people to ride in, to be given a command that that particular little ship, just wait. should just wait. You see, most people are never happy unless they're doing something while that little ship was doing something by just waiting, because the word of the Lord was to someone to get that little ship and keep it there. It was an out being used. They weren't running it. pulling these things you're doing summer, what do you call them? Yeah, skis. They weren't out fishing out, just had the boat docked, that's all. And a small ship should wait. That little ship when it was not doing anything, since knowledge wise, was doing the greatest thing in the world, for it was doing the will of God that Jesus Christ had spoken. That's what I want you to see. If I were going to teach on this or preach on it, I perhaps would have chosen a subject like ships also served.

06:40

or smaller ships. That weight. And as I thought of these things, there are most of us, many of us, most people that are in the spiritual walk of life. They look at themselves many times and they say, Well, I can't do what Dr. Wierwille does, or I can't do what Mr. dorsum does in Columbus. Or we just can't do what Catherine Compton does or somebody else. Are we any less doing God's will, if you cannot do what Dr. Will does, or Mr. Darcy, or anybody else, as long as we are doing the Father's will. Even the smallest of ships will serve. If the father says, I want that chip. For me. This thing just thrills my heart when he spoke to the disciples that a small ship should wait. People we got to do the will of the Lord. And many times just waiting is doing oil. When the cloud did not move, the children of Israel waited. This small ship wasn't doing a thing was just laying there anchored, that's all. And yet that ship was serving the Lord. Surely our lives are like that. Remember where he says that the whole body is fitly nipped together by that which every individual or every joint supplier? How could he have gone across the lake, for instance, had that little ship not been waiting there. So our lives take on this kind of color. Instead of always trying to run here and run there. We've got to do the word of the Lord. If the Lord says run, we run. If the Lord says, sit, we sit. The Lord says, just get a little ship and let it stand, we'll let it stand. Because day after day and week after week, all of us are getting more deeply engrossed into this old rat race in the world. And what for? Sometimes I wonder a dozen times a day what four. We just run Run, run, run, run. And of course, the people who usually run the most are those who are willing to do the most. Because only busy people are ever asked to do anything the rest never get it done anyway. And so forth. If they're busy people, they keep asking them. But the point I want to make is that we've got to go back to the Word and have God's will for our life. And if the Lord says move we move. If the Lord says wait, we wait. If the Lord says stand we stand. The big thing is to get the will of the Lord or even if You cannot teach. Or even if you are not an apostle or prophet or evangelist or pastor, every Christian believer who was born again of God Spirit has a unique position, a wonderful ministry in the body of Christ, even if we are only little ships that wait in the Gospel of Luke, Matthew, Mark Luke chapter nine in verse 10, and I'm going to pick it up at the beginning, but I want to tie it together, get here, so we can go back to the beginning of this chapter. When the apostles return, Jesus took them and he went aside privately into a desert place belonging to the city called that seat. You see, even the apostles and the disciples, were not always out running and doing it for a start reading with the first verse of this, you'll see they had really been up in the front line of the battle. They'd been out there doing God's will. Then when they returned, it was God's will. Jesus said that come apart with him and rest while they were like those little ships, then that just stood ready to serve. They were like the cloud by day on the pillar of fire by night, they were still doing God's will. The biggest thing is that we are doing God's will, the first verse of this ninth chapter.

11:54

Jesus, then he Jesus, called his 12 disciples together. And he Jesus gave them power. The word power is the word venomous. And authority. Authority is the word Axia. You see, without giving them the spiritual ability? What good would it have done had to exercise that the word authority is the word exercise? They not only had spiritual ability, but they had the ability to exercise it. He gave them power and authority over all devils. And to cure diseases, Jesus gave this power and authority to those disciples. Did he give us any less when he is in us, Christ in you, Christ in you the hope or glow? Do we as God's believers have less than what God's believers had them? Certainly not, because the same Lord Jesus Christ that was there and gave them power and authority, that same Christ lives within you. That same spirit of God is within you. This is why these men went forth and did what they did. He gave them power and authority over all levels and to cure diseases. And he sent them he sent them Do you see that? These men were sent by Oh, Jesus Christ. What are they sent out by a denomination? Were they sent out because they had gone to a university for four years, and to a theological school for three? No. These men were sent out because Jesus sent them out. They could have gone to a university in a theological school and been sent out. On the other hand, they may never have gone to a university or a theological school, but still were what sent out. The big key is that if we're going to carry out the ministry of the word, whether we're at rest, sitting like that boat, or if we're out on the action field, carrying out literally the word. In both instances, we must be sure that it is he Jesus Christ, who is running the show, and he sent them to preach the key My God, and to heal the sick or to heal the sick. They were, they were he sent them, he sent them to heal the sick. That's tremendous. Now suppose somebody else says, well, it wasn't them at all, then it was God who did it. What's the word say? Just the opposite. And then you make up your mind as we teach in the foundation of class, the integrity of the accuracy of God's Word. Does God word God's word mean what it says? And does it say what it means? When it says, He sent them out, then it means what it says. And when it says they were to heal the sick, preach the kingdom of God to heal the sick. That's what he meant. And he said, verse three, unto them, Take nothing for your journey. Neither staves nor script, these are bread, neither money, neither have two coats of peace. In other words, travel light. Wasn't one said, if you want to travel fast, you have to travel light. He simply instructed them to move this way. The reason was, as you can see from the rest of the Word of God, that these men who were administering among God doing God's work among God's people, that the people would take care of them.

16:43

And he said, in verse four, and whatsoever house, ye enter into their abide, and thence do what depart, this was tremendous instruction. He told him, if you get into a certain house, in the community, you stay put at that place, until he, in other words, don't run around and eat everybody's chicken every day, you get in that place, you eat chicken, dad, stay put, the original of this thing is real interesting, because literally, that's just what it means what I've told you, that you you'll enter in into whatever house you enter in, you stay there. But verse five, whosoever will not receive you. In other words, you get into a community and you get into a house, and they will not receive you means they will not receive what you are teaching, and what you stand for. The word received as the word DECO, my subjective reception. When you go out of that city, he didn't say stay there the rest of your life. He said, But when you go out of that city, then shake off the very dust from your feet, for a testimony against them. To shake off the dust, is just to have no animosity, no resentment, no bitterness. So just walk, just go out and out of that city, and pay no attention to what happened there it's over with, but don't carry any grudges. Don't carry any resentment, don't carry any negatives is not a tremendous thing. This is the walk was six. And they departed and went through the towns preaching the gospel, and healing everywhere. This is what occurred. If you'll keep your finger here and go to Matthew chapter 10.

18:57

You'll find a similar record similar trues rather. And when he had called on to him, his 12 disciples, He gave them power. The word power there is the same word is the word authority and Luke Exu Sia, to exercise against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness, and all manner of disease. And then he lists the 12. Now the names of the 12 apostles are the the first Simon who is called Peter and Andrew his brother James, the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, Philip and Bartholomew, Thomas and Matthew The Publican, James the son of Alphaeus, and lobbyists whose surname was status or taty, assesment. Simon the Canaanite and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him, these 12, Jesus dead watt, sent forth who sent them here, Jesus. You see, in verse two, it says that these men were watt apostles, and they were sent for commanded them saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles and into any city or the Samaritans enter you not, but go rather to the lost sheep of the House of what Israel and as you go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Here the sick lambs, the lepers, raised the dead, cast out devils, Freely you have received and the word received there is the word olam Bonnel. freely, you carry it out, you make your life a blessing to God's people. Freely you have received to give, freely give it when provided neither gold or silver nor brass, your purses nor scripts are your journey, neither two coats, neither neither shoes, nor yet stays for the workman is worthy of his meet. And into whatsoever city or town you shall enter, inquire who in it is worthy, and their abide to you go thence. When you come into another house studio, if the house be not worthy lecture, if the house be worthy, let your peace do what. But if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you. And whosoever shall not receive your nor hear your words, when you depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet, barely I sand you, it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city. That's something you see, God said if they would receive, Jesus told the apostles if the people would receive them, their mere presence in their home would bless their home, their mere presence in the in the city, what bless the city. But he said, If they will not receive you, just let the peace come back to you. But check the dust off your feet and go someplace else. In Luke chapter nine. It says in verse 10. And the apostles, when they were returned, told him all that they had done, who did it? They did exactly according to the Word of God. Jesus had sent them forth to do the job. They returned, and they told him all that they had done. And it was at that time that he took them. And he went aside privately into a desert place belonging to the city called Betsy. You see, they were serving the Lord when they were out there on the battlefield. They were also serving him when they came back and went into seclusion for a while, like the little ship that sat on the seashore, waiting for the Lord. What a tremendous thing it is to serve, whether it's serving in the capacity where you're out there ministering all the time, or whether you're just waiting.

23:53

In our day by day walk. And year after year, as we keep moving in the ministry of the research ministry. We have to remember that the greatest thing we can do is just to be sure that we're doing God's word. Sometimes, we've got to get into the communities. And maybe we'll have to put out some magazine. Maybe we're going to have to move in this field at another time. Father may say no deal at that place. Then we just sit. Just wait. The important thing is to be in the center of God's will and to carry out the work he wants us to do. I believe it's a tremendous day at a tremendous hour for any man or woman boy or girl young person who has a hunger and a desire for the integrity To the accuracy of God's word, there has never been a time in the history of our society, when we've had so much religion and such little accurate knowledge of God's word. It's remarkable. I have in my class, how many different denominations, Levin was 11, or 12. taught at Lakota McFeely. And I did that when I'm teaching in Miamisburg. These people, for the most part, have all been active. In some Sunday school class, or church, with the exception of two, two in the class, had never attended any of those places.

25:49

And I have no one in that class. Who even knows the books of the Bible? I have no one in that class, who could say the New Testament, which is the easiest for most people. But boy, if you if they had to say the old, they can't even read them. I take the Bible, done this almost three nights, I take the Bible and open it to in the beginning where it says Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, and I make them read that with the well, people, where have we been? If we've been in Sunday school and church ever since we've been born, and those poor people over there about as old as you are some of you, we've got them in there from, I think, I don't know, young to 88. Oh, no. What if they were born in 88? How old? Would that make them? 66. That 78. Getting pretty good. Why? They're 78. We got two in the class, 78 years old. And then on top, and they're wonderful, wonderful people. That's the thing. They have been in there. And oh, one of those just didn't know anything about the Old Testament or the books in them, and had belonged to church a lifetime. But if you don't learn it by 78, pray God when you go learn it. Ah, it seems to me if you were farming withdrawal, or you were farming, from the time you were born to were 78 years old, and you didn't know the difference between a plow and a horse, or a jackass and a mill? Or a tractor and a sheep. You'd be doing something about it before you got to be 78, wouldn't you? It really pitiful, would you look at it. It is so pitiful how Satan can have blinded our eyes. Just think we were right. When all along we were just playing. Right? How far could you go? As a teacher, for instance, or as even a worker in a factory where you have to do any writing, or anything? If you didn't know the alphabet? If you didn't know the ABC, you couldn't even write me a letter. I couldn't write a letter to you either. Well, how far do you think men have gone if they don't even know the books of the Bible or where they are? You see, it's a real privilege to teach men and women today. Because there are men and women who are hungry, they really would like to know, but they've never had the opportunity of knowing, even though they've been at places where they should have learned that. So you've got to come with the word to people. And once they begin to see that word, it isn't in the running around all the time. And usually when people get hungry, before you get them in the class on power for abundant living, if they've been hungry at all, they've been running every place. They run here, there and yonder. They taste a little bit of this. They taste a little bit of that tastes a little bit of that. We have one person in our class who has attended 23 or 25 different outfits. Christian outfits. Yeah. Why did she go there? Because Christian in quotes. Why did she go there? Because she felt that was she wanted to learn some sheep. Well, where would you go except those places. The only place you know to go, don't pay she can go.

29:49

So you see, we need to come back to the Word. We need to be sure that we are sent out and we're committed stir the word freely, freely. If we have received it freely, we are to give it freely. And this means that you pay no attention to their background. I don't care what people have been what they've done, I don't care who they have been or where they've been, as I say, in the class, many times how far up the ladder of society or down they've gone. I don't care. I'm only interested in one thing. How can they learn the word so they can help themselves to start where they are to move up to where they'd like to go. But we've got to be sure it's God's word. And as it's God's Word, we have to carry out the ministry, He sends us forth, he sends us forth, he will send us forth and carry out that ministry, even at times if he says, come apart, rest alone. Or take a vacation or do something. We'll be either like these apostles who moved out here, or like that little ship that was waiting on him to finish ministering so that he could get into that little ship and go across the lake. There's another story in the Bible about a ship. Remember when they cross the lake of Galilee save Lake we're talking about here tonight. The disciples had Jesus in the ship with them. And this was a larger ship different words than this one. They had the the apostles had Jesus in there with them. And this little storm came up. And they got all excited. And they said, why we're going to drown? We can survive. Remember, and finally, one of them suggested they better wake him up, let him know what was going on. Have you ever sat down and really thought that through with Jesus in the ship? Could it have gone down? No. Because that was his presence, the same as when we have his presence in his word, he tells us what to do. When we do it, we can't go down. If he says, sit still, and we don't that's the same authority as what he would say, get going. And he and that chip, no matter how boisterous the wind and the storm, how tremendous the waves were. When he was writing in that chip. The apostles knew or should have known that that chip could not go down. Because Jesus was in it. When I certainly he is, in our lives when we're born again of God's spirit isn't the those who are born again of God's Spirit have Christ in them the hope of glory, they're filled with God's power. Can that so called ship of our life go down? No. It can only do one thing, it can only be a blessing to the world and to the society in which we live. Every place we go, our lives have to be a blessing. When we speak and carry out the word, every place we stay, our presence has to bless that place where we are. Because God in Christ is in you. And even if you're sitting and resting or if you're out ministry, wherever you are, it will always be a blessing.

33:54

No matter what you're doing is not a tremendous thing. He took them apart to desert place that rest while another time he said there was a little ship said, tell the little ship to wait. I'm not concerned about how big people are spiritually, that's their business and gods. I'm only concerned that even those of us who are little ships that we must realize, if we cannot teach, maybe you can take a magazine, put it in a magazine rack in a laundromat. Maybe you can take a book and make it living and real for someone. Then you also serve just as effectively and will have just as great blessing in your life as any other person who is equally serving the Lord. That is the message I had on my heart. This is what I'd like to share with you.
