Victor Paul Wierwille was a Bible scholar and teacher for over four decades.
By means of Dr. Wierwille's dynamic teaching of the accuracy and integrity of God's Word, foundational class and advanced class graduates of Power for Abundant Living have learned that the one great requirement for every student of the Bible is to rightly divide the Word of Truth. Thus, his presentation of the Word of God was designed for students who desire the in-depth-accuracy of God’s Word.
In his many years of research, Dr. Wierwille studied with such men as Karl Barth, E. Stanley Jones, Glenn Clark, Bishop K.C. Pillai, and George M. Lamsa. His formal training included Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Theology degrees from Mission House (Lakeland) College and Seminary. He studied at the University of Chicago and at Princeton Theological Seminary from which he received a Master of Theology degree in Practical Theology. 04:49
Galatians chapter five Thank you Rhoda. Thank you, Dorothy. As I have told you many many times that the book of Galatians was written to Correct the doctrinal layer that had crept into the church, because of the failure of adherence to the revelation, given in the book of Romans, the Romans comes and then Corinthians and then Galatians, Corinthians corrects the practical error that has crept into the church, while Galatians corrects the doctrinal layer, your first practice there, after you've practiced it, then you make it a doctrine. And then you get other people to try to follow that doctrine. Here in the fifth chapter of the book of Galatians, we have one of the greatest records addressed to the church to correct some doctrinal error. And the doctrinal era that it is set forth to correct is the idea of the works of man, putting him in good stead and standing him before God in righteousness and holiness. And therefore, tonight, we must again, look at this scripture honestly, and let this word of God reign supreme Lee in our believing in our thinking. One of the most difficult things that I see among God's people today is that they cannot come to the place where the word of God has preeminence in their life. They're constantly trying to go by something that's less than the revealed word of God. Somehow or other, it seems like when it comes to a man's eternal destiny, his soul salvation, as long as he can make it do less than what God's Word says, it really is, he feels real good about it. But in every other line of business, it's just the opposite. In education, in business practices, in shops and factories, it's not that they can do less, but that they can do more. Why doesn't someone just rise up some time and believe a little beyond the Word of God, that I have never seen. But I've seen hundreds and hundreds of people who always want to do less than God's word. Here in the fifth chapter in the first verse, the Word of God addressed to us says, Stand fast, therefore, in the Liberty, wear with Christ has made us free, and be not entangled again, with the yoke of bond. It seems like everybody wants to get tied up in the yoke of bond. The yoke of bondage is the law, the law, and it's that Old Testament law, or some other type of law that somebody else has set up. Remember, when the Pharisees came to Jesus, they accused him and his disciples of not washing their hands before they would eat? And he said to them, Well, why do you transgress the commandments of God, by your tradition, it's always tradition is always a law. Law is always a tradition. And it always wants to enslave people, bring them into something, because if I can explain you to my doctrine, if I can enslave you to my personal opinion, then I can keep you in my outfit. This is the idea. And people we are just as an slave today, under the yoke of bondage, in the average church, so called Christian than they have been at any time in the history of our civilization. If you wanted to, again, see how people are enslaved, you should have been in the class that I'm teaching in Colombia, you would have seen it, how desperately and slave they are, under one law or under another. This said it had occurred in the church. In the first century, the apostle Paul had had the revelation of the Lord, he had taught them the greatness, that God's word, and for a while they walked in it. But some short time after he had taught them the greatness of the word, the legalist came along. And they would say, yes, you're saved, all right, but you better just make sure of it and get circumcised. Someone else would come along and say, you're saved. Yes. But you better make sure that and get immersed, or sprinkled are dipped, or something else. This was the yoke of bondage, all of those laws.
09:24
Now, the revelation of the word here is that there to stand fast in the liberty with Christ has made us free. And ladies and gentlemen, if Christ has made us free, then we are what? Free. And if we declare, by our walk, by our testimony, by our mouth, that we are not free. Then somebody lied. Either God's word lied, or the man who says that or the woman, somebody's got to be wrong, because the word says, where to stand fast in the liberty done liberty, where with Christ has made us free. Now the first word I want to handle in this particular verse is that word liberty. It's a tremendous word. In the Greek, this word is a r r e s e IA. Alisha. This is the word PA, r r e s IA Ardisia. And that word liberty is much stronger than you perhaps in our, with our English usage of the word would fully understand. It literally means boldly with a fearless mind. Not a wonderful, stand fast, therefore, in the Liberty, boldly, boldly with a fearless mind with a fearless mind. You see, the reason people get enslaved after they're born again, in all the legalism is because they still have one fear that it isn't quite as true as God said it was. So they want to do something to help themselves to make it a little more certain. And the moment we endeavor to make it a little more certain, we indicate by our action, it's complete uncertainty. If we cannot trust God all the way, we couldn't trust him part of the way. And he says, by revelation here where to stand fast, stand fast means just that, don't get pushed around. Don't let people enslave you. Don't allow them to put you under the old yoke of bondage. Stand fast in the liberty with a fearless mind. Where with Christ has made us free, and be not entangled, and tangled. The word entangled I believe you would perhaps pretty well understand in its current usage, it is much like in the Bible, the Greek word for this word, you'll want to maybe just put on the margin of your Bible is the word e and e XO, an echo, I'm Nicole enex Oh, which means be no longer held in be no longer enslaved held in but entangled. If you get entangled in barwara or something, you got a good picture this word. They have a pretty difficult time getting out.
12:48
Really, so I got untangle the bar bar out here the other week was just two weeks ago tonight, I someone came and I had my suit on ready to go for the evening I was dressed. And lo and behold, we wanted to cross that place out there toward the creek and it's got to have barbed wire on it. And ordinarily, I just step over those things, and I'm gone. But I suppose since I had a good suit on, it was a good time to get caught. So I got entangled. And I tell you, it took more time getting out of that than did get again, that's for sure. Now to be entangled in the yoke of bondage, just get the picture in your mind. He said where to stand fast in the liberty were with Christ set us free and not to be all held in and tangled again. And you know, before you came into this ministry, some of you how you were entangled, how you were enslaved, or you are full of fear, how God's word set you free? Or why do you want to go back with people and let people influence you, you are to be the one that ought to be influencing them. That word and not to be untangled again with the yoke of bondage. And the reason it uses the word yoke is because in the Bible times when they drove the oxen they yoke them together with that kind of you know what it is sort of a is a yoke goes like this cuddle hook over here and one over here and is heading here and heading here. He can't go anyplace because he's all tied in. He's all bound in he's all entangled in it. And we're not to be entangled in that yoke of bondage. What a tremendous truth. This is to the heart of the believer, and how we must constantly watch that someone does not come along or some group that wants to ensnare us and entangle us again. So we get back to living in the same old negative life we lived in before we got into the greatness of God's word to walk in the freedom of each one of the reasons, of course is stipulated in Acts 21 I'd like for you to look at Acts 21 Matthew, Mark, Luke, John Acts, Acts chapter 21. The greatness of the word had been taught by the Apostle Paul. And in Acts 21, verse 20. And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord. They glorify the Lord for a lot the Lord had done. But they said to Paul, Tao see a swap, rather, how many 1000s of Jews, there are, which believe. They were all born again of God's Spirit, but they had been Jews before they were born again. Now after they're born again, he says, well, they glorified the Lord, but they were all zealous for the love. The law. They were born again, are God's Spirit. But after they were born again, a God Spirit, did they stand fast in the liberty? Where was Christ had set them free? No, they were still zealous for the law. And that's just exactly what's happening among many of God's people today. They're born again, they believe they're saved, but they're all entangled. They're all enslaved. They're full of fear. They're full of everything else. And they try to bring everybody down to their level, so that that yoke of bondage is again on you. Don't let them do it. Well, the word of God declared where to stand fast in the freedom, the Liberty was our fearless mind. Where was Christ Jesus set us free. And we're not to be in cased and tangled in that yoke of bondage. While you're in the book of Acts, look at chapter 30. We'll just read a few of these. You'll see x 30. listener, verse 39, and by him all that believe are justified from what? From all things, all that believe. While when you believe, then you are one thing, justified from all things, if you're justified from all things? Are you then under the law any longer? God forbid, from which he could not be justified by the law of Moses. Wonderful. Look at Romans chapter three. Verse 20. Therefore by the deeds of the law, there shall no flesh be justified in His sight, or by the law is the knowledge of sin, but not justification. Justification is by Oh, Jesus Christ. And in verse 28. Therefore, we conclude that a man is justified by faith, the faith of Jesus Christ, without the deeds of the law. Keep your finger here in Romans, I want to come back after a bit, but Turn to Galatians once Galatians chapter two. Look at verse 16. Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law, or by the works of the law shall know flesh they want, justified in Romans, in chapter six, where I'd like for you to go back to a moment in verse 14, or sin, shall not have dominion over you. Are ye are not under the law, but under what? Grace? And in Romans, chapter 10. In verse four, For Christ is the end of the law or righteousness to everyone that does what bit even Christ is the end of the law. So as somebody comes along and says, Well, he was only the end of the ceremonial law, God generated ceremonial law. Right. I disturbed one of the preachers in my class this week. Got some good ministers in there. Couple of and I certainly disturbed one of them. because he just absolutely is convinced that paradise is heaven. And I have a new paragraph you know where the problem with the MAL effect is the Lord said to him, barely I say underneath today, comma, future tense, thou shalt be with me in paradise. But you know, we Protestants got to get him in heaven right afterwards, Roman Catholics have to take a little time getting through purgatory. That's the difference. That's all. So one puts a comma headed today, and the other one has to put it behind today. And this minister was like all of us ministers at one time or another, been trained that paradise is heaven. But it isn't heaven. It isn't heaven paradise, Paradise soup is soup, Apple butters, apple butter, peanuts or peanuts, Evans, heaven, Paradise paradise. When Christ was the end of the law, in Galatians, three, verse 13. Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a lot. Curse, Thoris. Christ is the end of it, because he redeemed us from it. And ladies and gentlemen, if he redeemed us from it were redeemed. If he's the end of the law, he's the MW. That means every law that was ever given. He's the end up. He's the fulfillment of it. I always get so blessed when I think of the three days and the three nights that Jesus Christ was dead in in the heart of the earth. You know, if a man's dead, he's dead. The moment Jesus Christ died, he was dead, right? Like you somebody gets shot, somebody gets run over. If they're dead, they're up. Aren't they just as dead? When they're dead? Then as they are dead three days later? Or if you're dead, you're dead.
21:58
Now just sit and think about that. Why didn't God resurrect him? The moment of his death? Why did he Why did he wait three days and three nights. Because there was a legal thing involved. Christ was the end of the law. He was the fulfillment of it. And the law required that a man to be pronounced officially did so his wife could get the insurance I suppose or collect social security, I don't know. But anyways, he had to have a period of three days and three nights. This is why Jesus Christ was in the grave. Three days and three nights before God raised Him, He fulfilled the law. Christ is the end of the law. He's the fulfillment of had he broken it in any one place, had he not fulfilled it. He could not be your Redeemer and mine because we'd still be under that law from which he had not redeemed us. Isn't that wonderful? No wonder when the Apostle Paul got the revelation from God, of the greatness of what we have in Christ Jesus. He said to those people stand fast and fast in the liberty, the freedom from the law with which Christ Jesus has set you free and be not ensnared and tangled and grossed again, by that yoke of bondage. This is why in verse two, he lays it on the line, people if God's word is God's Word, we ought to read it and believe it has reread it. Some of you've got to put water baptism in there instead of circumcision. Because today, it is a circumcision that bothers to many people, it's water baptism. And a lot of other little things we do, put washi who's brushing anything that man has enslaved us with? Dry? All says, in verse two, which is God's revelation to the church, the whole I, Paul say unto you, that if you be circumcised, Christ shall profit you are. That's the gospel truth. What about some of these other things? If we do those Christ prophets as luck, nothing, you know what we're doing? We're saying that what God really accomplished in Christ, Christ really did not do that. We have to make sure that we get little more than what he did. It prophets us then what Christ did nothing. Right, testify again to every man who is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. Christ is become no effect under you. Because if the law will save a person, then Christ is of no effect. Because if you're going to keep the law, you've got to keep all of it. And if you can get Saved by keeping all of the law you don't need crises of no effect to you. Whosoever Have you are justified by the law, you're fallen from grace, that tremendous are we by the Spirit through or by the Spirit? Wait, are the hope of righteousness by faith glory? Hallelujah. Wait for the hope, the hope, the hope, hope is something you cannot have now it has to be one future, the hope. The hope of righteousness is the return of Christ. The return of Christ? Are we through the Spirit, which is in us by way of the Spirit. We wait, wait for the hope of righteousness, who is our hope of righteousness? Jesus Christ. He is the righteous one. He is the one who accomplished for us right? And we're waiting, waiting for him. He is our justification. He is our hope of our righteousness. If he justified us, then he has to make us what righteous in God's sight. So we're not waiting for the law. We're not waiting for circumcision, water baptism. footwashing anything else? We are waiting for the return of Christ, who is our righteous? Boy, what a tremendous truth that verses are you spot verse six.
26:39
In Jesus Christ, neither circumcision availeth anything nor uncircumcision station, but faith, which worketh by love. This sixth verse here, I have translated for some of you people literally before, but tonight again, I'd like to share with those of our people who perhaps have never been in the auditorium when I've taught on this chapter, or this verse, particularly Hebrews six, are people listening to the broadcast. If you have a pencil and a piece of paper, Andy, you might enjoy writing this literal translation, because it'll give you the impact of the greatness of this sixth verse. And here it is, or when Christ Jesus is born with him. Or when Christ Jesus is born within. neither circumcision, nor uncircumcision gives one spiritual strength. Or when Christ Jesus is born within, neither circumcision, nor uncircumcision gives one spiritual strength. Now before you write anymore, just think about that. neither circumcision or on circumcision gives one spiritual strength. People have believed that they had more spirituality if they got circumcised, or something else, by the law, they had more of a connection, they were better with God, that didn't eat bologna on Saturday, or something. That's not it. These are circumcision nor uncircumcision gives us any what? spiritual strength. Now go on. Here's the rest of the translation. But spiritual faith, spiritual thing is energized effectively. Rachel faith is energized effectively in manifestation, by the love of God in a renewed mind. spiritual faith is energized effectively and manifestation by the love of God in the renewed mind. Then I put in parentheses this explanation. And this is what makes one powerful underprint. spiritual faith is energised, spiritually and effectively in manifestation in our day by day vlog. By the love of God we have in the renewed mind. And this love of God in the renewed mind in manifestation is what makes one powerful it is day by day living. That's the literal translation of verse six. This is why neither circumcision nor uncircumcision are bailiff anything but faith which works by love, or seven. He did run while he says to the church, congratulation. You want ran real good. You were really moved, but something happened. He said, Well, who hindered you Who obstructed you that you should not obey the truth? What truth, the truth that they were to stand fast in the liberty where was Christ Jesus had set them free. This persuasion, verse eight, this persuasion to change, commerce not of Him of God who called you. They they changed, but the reason that they changed was not because God told him to do it, even though the people ran all over town said what God said to me, I get circumcised. God told me I've got to do God never told him anything like was that God if contradict himself, right? God had justified, he redeemed he had sanctified him. He called them out of darkness into light. He had done all this for them in Christ Jesus. And he says in verse nine, a little leaven leavens the whole lump, what he taught you, the league, ballistics, the league listings, if you've got one little legal place, you put yourself under you, lemon but and lemon is always used of evil in the Word of God.
31:12
And here, it's talking about the law, putting yourself under the law. At one place is lemon, it's evil, and that we're lemon your whole life. You're a whole lump. It'll make you walk less than what God called you to walk on, into the freedom in Christ Jesus, they don't enslave you when I case you if I entangle you, that's the leverage talking about the yoke of bondage, that's the lemon. You keep these things in context. Remember, the word interprets itself in the verse context of a news before reading all these in context, that gives you the greatness of that verse. Everybody takes it out of context. About the legal side, the law side. I have confidence very stem. In you, however, through the Lord, that your will be non otherwise minded, that you'll come back to God's word and stay put on God's word not otherwise minded. But he's like trouble as you shall bear his own judgment, who's sorry, repeat those follows that trouble you to put you under the legalistic end of it. Let them alone, let them let you alone. You just walk in the greatness of God's Word. Verse 11. I Brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution, then is the offense as across seas? First of all those words why do I get suffer persecution are not in the critical breakdown. They should be deleted from your text. It literally is the the Word of God reads verse 11. And I brother and if I yet preach circumcision, then is the offense of the cross ceased, and what the cross stood for has terminated. Verse 12, he said, Those fellows that teach this circumcision business, the law, the all that I would they were even cut off which trouble you. Verse 30, our brethren, you have been called on to liberty. And that's the same word that for liberty that used in verse one, only use not liberty as an occasion of the flesh, but by love. These are love of God in the renewed mind, which makes us powerful that we read about verse six, but by love, serve one another, don't put one another under the yoke of bondage but by love serve one another. Every time you get to the legalistic and the law, the yoke of bondage, you know what it's for? If I put you under it, it would get you to serve me. It's just the opposite of the principles of the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. In Christ Jesus our Lord, it's my responsibility to serve you. If you never serve me, that's your loss, not mine. It is your responsibility to serve your fellow Christian if that fellow believer does not reciprocate that his laws, not yours. But under law, under law, you'll always get everybody to do that which will serve you. All the law I mean, very sporty. Are all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as dialogue. Last god, that's something that's not where he serves you but where you love him. I know what you're going to say, Well, why should I love him? He's not gonna love me. That's not in the Word. You love him. That's right. If you and I can't love the unlovable, then why should cry has ever loved us. But if Christ really loved us, and gave himself for us, and we have him, then we have to learn to love the unlovable with the renewed mind, love your neighbor, love the unlovable, we have to this is our responsibility under that law, which has set us free that liberty in Christ Jesus. Because here you have the law of the Old Covenant reached up this high, the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus is way up. So therefore, if you keep this law, you won't be breaking any of those, you're just be walking in something bigger, something greater, something more wonderful. But he says in verse 15, if you bite and devour one another, okay, key because what's going to happen to you got to be concerned going to have another, this I say, walk by the Spirit. And when you're walking by the Spirit, you're not going to fulfill the loss or mud, or the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh. And these are absolutely contrary one or the other, so that you can not do the things that you are, but very safety. If he be led of our by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are manifested, which are these adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness that's lust. Verse 20, idolatry, witchcraft, ESP. hokey, pokey ism, spiritualism. All category hatred, variants, emulations, wrath, Stripe, seditions, heresies, endings, murders, drunkenness, revellings. And such like, these are the works of what the flesh of the which I tell you before, as I've also told you in time past, that they would do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. They were not born again at God's Spirit couldn't have gotten in if they wouldn't have done any of them. But, but verse 22, in contrast, here again, plainly, But the fruit of the Spirit, and you're going back up to verse 18, to tie this together, if you'd be allowed with the Spirit, you're not under the law. For then you're going to if your letter, the spiritual love your neighbor, you're walking that love and then you'll have the fruit of the Spirit. And the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance, against such there is no what law? Why? Because we're walking in something bigger, something greater, something much more magnificent and wonderful. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh, with the affections and what plus they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh. It's been crucified, not something in the future, it's already crucified with the affections and the last because we're going to walk by lot, this spirit. If verse 25, we live by the Spirit in the spirit, let us also look in or by the Spirit, if we live by the Spirit, and that's exactly how we live spiritually. We live because Christ is in us right? Now, since Christ is in us were to walk by that spirit, not by the yoke of bondage, not by the legalism, but by that freedom which we have in Christ Jesus, to walk with that our founding, love that greatness as a renewed mind. Let us not verse 26, be desirous of vain goal, provoking one another, and being one another. To be desirous of vain goal is because we want to put people under the yoke of bondage, because that will glorify us if they are under that particular yoke. So we're not to be desirous of vain glory, and it's always been glowy if somebody has to do this, because I would say you have to that would be bring vain glory to me, it would not be the glory is that that person does this without having to do it. He does it because of the love of God in Christ Jesus in his heart, isn't that wonder? Is it is no glory to a parent. When a son is 16 or 18 or 20 years of age, every time you want him to do something you have to compel him to do but if that son loves You and he does it freely without any compulsion or compelling on your part. That's the Go rate to a daddy No, mommy right? So it is in Christ Jesus. When we walk, when we walk in this life with out that legalistic and slave enslavement, we walk in that freedom. And don't get entangled again, don't let people put you on or anything except the love of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus, then you'll manifest the greatness of the power of God. And wherever you have vain glory, you have this envying one another. The Envy is always this one wants more power, this one wants more power, that one wants more power. And it's a chess move, or who can get the most power. And the one who has the most power do the most controlling, and the Word of God, it's just a field where the greatness of the power lives within you, and it is a renewed mind, the liner renews his mind the most is the line who manifest for the most of the love of God. It's not a question then of you serving me, when it comes to the greatness of the world. It is a question am I serving you? Right, it's a question of you serving the other Christian belief. Maybe we've just had this thing turned around too long, maybe upside down, where everybody thought that you see when you got an education, and everybody serves you. So therefore we go get higher education, we have more people serving, but you know what the truth is of God's Word. The more education you have, the more you should serve humanity. If you're educated as a teacher, now, as a teacher, you should give up your life and your talent to serve. If you're educated as a doctor, you ought to give your life and talent to certain drugs, that ought to be the first principle. But it seems like today, it's been a matter of remuneration. So we go to college to get an education, thinking we can have an easier time, get more money and get more people to Salam is it's just the opposite of the Word of God. And ladies and gentlemen, this is as true of every believer that I know, basically speaking, that's been in the so called Christian Church, they're just as bad as the man or the woman or the boy or girl who has never been inside the Christian church. Our job is again what the Word says, to be of service to men and women. We've got to give ourselves we have to allow people to drink of the Spirit of God that's within us, even if they never reciprocate, if they never get back, because we just dare not put anybody under the yoke of bondage. We are to serve. And we're to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. Remember those two wonderful scriptures? Jesus gave, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, what? Soul nine and string Matthew 22 and second commandment like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments, hang all the lot, lot, and it's still true in this day of the church to which you and I live.
