Victor Paul Wierwille (December 31, 1916 – May 20, 1985) dedicated his life to the research and teaching of the Bible. In his quest for truth he consulted and worked with some of the most outstanding individuals in Biblical studies and Christian living; including Karl Barth, Joseph Bauer, Glenn Clark, Karl J. Ernst, Joseph Friedli, Louis C. Hessert, Elmer G Homrighausen, E. Stanley Jones, George M. Lamsa, Richard and Reinhold Niebuhr, K. C. Pillai, Paul Tillich, Ernst Traeger, and many others.

Dr. Wierwille received his Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Theology degrees from present day Lakeland College, and conducted graduate studies at the University of Chicago and Princeton Theological Seminary. It was at Princeton that Wierwille earned the Master of Theology degree in Practical Theology. He later completed his Doctor of Theology degree at Pike's Peak Bible Seminary and Burton College in Manitou Springs, Colorado.

Dr. Wierwille was the author of numerous books in the field of Biblical research, including Are the Dead Alive Now?; Receiving the Holy Spirit Today; Jesus Christ Our Passover; and Jesus Christ Our Promised Seed. Additionally, he developed and taught several comprehensive classes directed toward helping people to understand the Bible and to increase the power of God in their lives, such as the Power For Abundant Living series, Living Victoriously, and the University of Life courses. Dr. Victor Paul Wierwille was the founder and president of a world-wide Biblical research, teaching, and fellowship ministry for forty years; as well as the founder and president of several Biblical research centers, colleges, leadership training, and Christian outreach programs associated with it.

Victor Paul Wierwille served the Lord with unending joy all the days of his life as he travelled continuously throughout the world to hold forth the Word of God. He reached thousands of people during his lifetime through his live presentations, numerous radio and television broadcasts, film and video classes, and recorded teachings. And countless others continue to enjoy and be enriched by his books and hundreds of hours of recorded works, many of which are available in the public domain. Tonight we come to the conclusion of the greatest doctrinal section in the Word of God. It is the greatest doctrinal section, as I said, in the Word, but golly, it's just so fantastically great that it is almost unbelievably believable. That any man should have the privilege of teaching this is a privilege beyond words. That any man should have the understanding of it is even beyond that. And I want to finish this third chapter tonight because if I didn' t finish it tonight , I just couldn' t live with myself, because this will sort of wrap up all the greatness of these verses preceding this in all the chapters: one and two and three.

And verse 16 of this third chapter reads in the King James, That He would grant you according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might by His spirit in the inner man.

The word ' riches ' according to the members of our Biblical Research Team ... and I am tremendously impressed and highly blessed to have such a fantastic group of men and women in our Research Team. As I said to Rev. Cummins, Walter Cummins, before I came in earlier this evening, I said, Walter, I do not believe that there is any verse of scripture, any place in the Word of God that we could not handle and rightly divide today .

And to be able to do that is so far beyond the understanding of most of the Corps, but you just think about it and you just wait till you grow up spiritually, even further than you are tonight. And Walter said, ' Well, we might not be able to do it right now. It might take us a little time.' And he' s right about that. Sometimes it does take a little time.

You too cold in here? Turn the air conditioning off in here, please. We've got to get you warmed up on the Word, anyways. Bless your heart.

But I was tremendously blessed this morning. I was in Old Testament and I think Exodus chapter 12 or something, and there was a verse of scripture that just made no sense whatsoever. So instead of my taking my time, I called up our Research Department, talked to Bernita. And I said, ' honey, this thing just doesn't fit, so go to work on it. Give me the translation of it. Work the words and give me the translation of it as quickly as you can.'  About ten or fifteen minutes later, she had the answer and it fit like a hand in a glove. And I was able to work the Word until I had to quit on that section of scripture. Yeah.

Well, this verse here, verse 16. The word ' riches'  in here, according to our Research Department and they're right. I don' t understand all of them, but they put it all together and I think they' re right. And I do understand , I guess, when I'm honest and think about it. Sometimes I get lazy and my mind refuses to think about all this...but.. .

This word ' riches' they say is an idiom. It is a figure of speech known as heterosis and it's a figure of speech known as anthropopatheia. That makes ' 3 in 1.' That ought to keep you well lubricated spiritually. And it's talking about the riches of His glory. And the riches of His glory, the word there, the ' glory' is also a figure known as hypallage, h-y-p-a-l-l-a-g-e , which is simply an interchange of nouns. And this places the emphasis on the ' riches of it.'

The order of the words in the Greek read, regarding ' to be strengthened,' the order of the words in the Greek read ' with might to be strengthened. '

The ' inner man' ...' the inner man' part that's in the King James there, is the anthropopatheia figure, ' Christ in you.' There 's not much else that I need to share on this, except to give you the literal according to usage of this verse that I think is going to bless you much.

This is the literal of verse 16: That He will give you according to the riches of His glory the potential power.

Boy, isn't that tremendous? That God will give to you, Corps... that He will give you, this is God, giving you according to the riches of His glory.

I don' t know if your heart can feel that , understand it, the beauty of it, the tremendous greatness of it. To give to you, to me, one who has been dead in trespasses and sins, without God, all of that, according to the riches of His glory. Not His poverty, not His meanness. Not the kind of God that I was originally taught in catechism and other places: He was a God that beat people, a God that hurt people, a God that made people sick, a God that injured people.

This tells us that He gives it to us according to the riches, the riches of His glory. The potential power, it' s dunamis , potential. See, God never forces, Corps. He gives us all of this, but He never forces us. He never possesses. He never controls. We never become channels for Him. We are not His mediums. Man, it' s beautiful.

According to the riches of His glory, the potential power. It becomes kinetic when you and I operate it by the freedom of our wills, by believing what His Word says. Thus. . .the potential power...thus you will be established. You no longer flip around from this to that, but you are what? [Established] Established, set in, established by His spirit. You ' re established by His spirit in the inner man. That is the literal according to usage of verse 16.

The expanded one is sort of interesting, also. And this you sort of set up in parallel lines. This is the expanded one. Put this in your top line: In order to give you. That ' s the top line. Underneath that you write: The wealth and treasure of His glorious perfection. In order to give to you the wealth.. .the wealth and treasure of His glorious perfection.

Then in the next line which is also.. .and here is the second great truth.. .To be strengthened by His spirit that is in you, God in Christ in you. To be strengthened by His spirit that is in you mightily and powerfully, permeating your inner being (inner man). Strengthened by His spirit that is in you mightily and powerfully to the end that it permeates your inner being (inner man) which is Christ in you, that' s the inner man, Christ in you, the hope of glory.

That' s why I think... isn't it in the Foundational Class or is it in the Advanced Class, where I teach that Jesus Christ, his eyes behind your eyes. Is that Foundational or Advanced? [Advanced] Advanced, is it? [Yes] See. Boy, that' s exactly what this verse says again. To be strengthened by His spirit that is in you mightily and powerfully permeating your inner being. Permeating the inner being.

That makes Him, honey, eyes behind your eyes, ears behind your nose...ears behind your ears, nose behind your nose. See. That makes Him the ' all' in the all of you. That' s why revelation is so simple to me. Because this is the Word. He permeates your inner being. He is closer than hands or feet or even breathing which is the natural man. And in the natural man I can feel things. I bite my finger,

I feel it. The inner man also is there. And the inner man is more real than the outer man. But we've been talked out of it through all these centuries by the so-called ' Christian Church,' because they haven' t taught us the Word. They' ve taught us tradition, unbelief, all that stuff. Not the Word.

This is the Word.

Mightily and powerfully He's in you. Permeating, permeating your inner being, the inner man... Perhaps I'll do it...put it in here: Permeating entirely, completely, completely , complete, your inner being. Maybe you' ll understand it better then. I don' t need it. I understand it without it, but maybe some of you do, and so forth.

Verse 17 in King James. That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love.

The word ' grounded' in the Aramaic is ' your foundation. ' These words ' rooted and grounded' is the figure hypocatastatis, a main idea is implied by the context, and an imported idea is substituted with which the main idea is being compared. The imagery here implies from these two participles...the imager y implied from these two participles is of a tree and a building which will fit the imagery of chapter 2:21, ' groweth into a holy temple.' Remember that? Well, you do now since I told you.

The literal according to usage of this verse 17 is: In love Christ will dwell in your hearts so that you are solidly rooted and grounded. That's the literal according to usage.

' In love,' I went literal here according to usage. If I had gone the way I know it is, it simply is because of His love.' Because of God' s love. All you have to do is remember John 3:16, right? God so loved that He what? [Gave] Okay. So it' s because of God' s love. And I translated it literally according to usage: In love Christ will dwell in your hearts.

Perhaps even another translation that might add more oomph to it for you would be: In love Christ will dwell by being in your heart so that you are solidly rooted, solidly rooted and grounded.

Now the expanded one is sort of interesting the way I worked this to give it even, in my heart at least , a greater understanding to those who want it: By His spirit in your inner being...

Where you going to get all these translations from ... off the tape when you listen to it again? Son, I'm talking to you... second row.. .You aren't writing nothing down, right? You must be a brain. You got to be a genius. You way out of my class, man.

Bring me a cup of coffee. I'd like to give you an exam after I finish with this thing. Most likely will. See how you can translate them, how you can work them. I give my life for you son, what in the hell are you giving? You ain't worth being in the Corps. You ain't even worth me spitting at, looking at. You leave if you like. Damn Corps.

Dr. Wierwille: Let' s pick a song. I got to get out of here, I'm mad. I worked all 36-40 hours to teach the Word. Nick go home? What in the hell...

Dr. Wierw ille: Alright, you go out the back with Craig and Walter, please. Out the back. Get gone.

Alright, now where in the heck was I? {Inaudible, but never gave the literal of verse 17} Sighs.

Verse 18 in King James reads, May be able, verse 18, King James reads , May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;

The word ' to comprehend' means to ' really understand.' The Greek comes from the word kata and

lambano which means ' to understand to the end that you receive it in manifestation,' Corps. Robertson translates it, ' to lay hold of effectively with the mind to grasp.'

These words ' length, depth, and height.' Many of the writers, like Chrysostom, Basah, Harless and others say that these dimensions describe the vastness of the Mystery. They' re right.

But a fellow by the name of {Herman}von Soden says,' it describes the Mystery with the figure of the temple, giving dimensions. ' That' s better.

It is interesting to note that the earthly inheritance of our wonderful Abraham is defined in the Word of God in two measurements only: breadth and length. The heavenly city, the New Jerusalem is defined in three: breadth, length, and height. Only the Mystery is defined as the temple in four dimensions, the Mystery. The breadth, the length, the depth, and the height.

Our Research Team feel, and I think they' re right, that these measurements: length, breadth, depth, and height, tie into the temple, or the habitation of God, going way back to chapter two. They also believe, which I do also agree with them, absolutely, that it' s further substantiated by the two words ' rooted and grounded' in 3:17.

In Greek literature, ' rooted and grounded,' is used of buildings. But ' rooted ' is also used of plants and trees that have a firm root in the earth. Those four words do not give the object which these dimensions are spanning, so that the phrase is as if it read, ' the breadth of, the length of, and so forth.' The missing words are... it's an ellipsis ... the Mystery , God' s habituation, the temple, the Body of Christ, the riches of His glory.

Perhaps the most unique word of these four is the word ' depth.' Length, breadth and height also used regarding Noah' s ark, the tabernacle and its ark, the temple of Solomon in Ezekiel, New Jerusalem of

the Revelation. The word ' depth' however, is used of the sea, but never a building. He casts our sins from us as far as the east is from where? [West] And as what? Deep as the deepest sea.

Depth perception always relates itself to the eyes. You got it? In Corinthians .. .I mean in Ephesians, remember when I taught you 'the eyes,' not singular but plural. The eyes of your understanding. That gives you depth perception.

The literal according to usage of this great verse is as follows: That you will be able to comprehend with all the saints...And people, that didn't leave anybody out. Anybody who wants to, can, because the power is in him, the Word is available .. . You will be able to comprehend with all the saints. So every saint can comprehend it. .. the breadth. Then I put a parenthesis (of the Mystery of His habitation) and the length and the depth and height.

Now I worked on the expanded one just for hours to build this thing with what I see as all the greatness in this wonderful verse. And here again in your notes you write, 'In order that' that's the first line. Then underneath it you put, ' You will be fully able to really manifest in understanding.' That word ' in' I put a parenthesis behind it (with). You will be fully able to really manifest in (with) understanding. And I just put the parenthesis in there. It doesn't grammatically work too good, but it makes a heck of a lot sense when you think it through. Really manifest in understanding, with understanding. You manifest with understanding.

The next phrase after ' understanding' is a comma. With all the saints the mystery of His temple, (God' s love, His habitation, the riches of His glory),

Now look at what you have written and the greatness of it. In order that you will be fully able, you will be fully able to really manifest in understanding or with your understanding with all the saints, all the saints could fully able to really manifest, with all the saints, with all the saints the mystery of His temple. Then the parenthesis, (God' s love, the habitation, the riches of His glory).

Now go back before the parenthesis and watch it as I read it to you. The mystery of His temple. Now underneath it:

  1. The mystery of His temple - In length, it is
  2. Underneath it, In breadth, it is
  3. In height, it is measureless.
  4. Corps, In depth, it is

Now let me read this to you without the parenthesis. In order that you will be fully able to really manifest in understanding with all the saints the Mystery of His temple: in length it is endless; in breadth it is boundless; in height it is measureless; in depth it is fathomless. That' s the verse.

Verse 19 King James. And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.

' The fullness of God,' all I need to say about it is that all the fullness of the Godhead bodily dwelt in whom? [Christ] And it is Christ where? [In you] When Christ dwells in your heart, the fullness of the Godhead bodily dwells in you.

Vincent said, This is the fullness, God in part, through the dwelling of Christ in the heart. I know he's right.

The literal according to usage of verse 19: And you will know the greatness of the knowledge of the love of Christ and you will be filled with all the fullness of God, and you will know the greatness... you will know it. .. the greatness of the knowledge of the love of Christ, and you will be filled with all the fullness of God.

And the following is the expanded of verse19: And you will know the greatness of the knowledge of the love of Christ and you will be filled up.. .you see, you really wouldn't need that word ' up.' If something is full, it's full up, right? If it isn't filled, it' s not filled. So you really wouldn't need the word ' up,' but I put it there so that not even a fool need to err therein... And you be filled up to the full measure with all the fullness of God.

Boy, it's almost impossible for even your heart to take that in. Who has ever dared to even say it, let alone believe it? But this is the Word. We are what the Word of God says we are. We have what the Word of God says we have. So if nobody has ever dared to believe it, that's their problem. If they have never understood it, it' s theirs. It' s in the Word, people. To know the greatness of the knowledge of the love of Christ. And you will be filled up to the full measure with all the fullness of God. There is absolutely nothing, people, that the believer cannot handle.

Verse 20 King James. Now unto Him that is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think , according to the power that worketh in us. This is a figure of speech known as benedictio which simply means ' benediction.'

It is very interesting that the literal of the Aramaic is ' but to Him who is able with power more excellent than all.' That is absolutely the literal of those words, ' now unto Him that' s able.' The Aramaic is, 'but to Him who is able with power more excellent than all.' The power more excellent than all sets it in contrast with the power that His adversary, the arch enemy of God endeavors to represent. The true God has equipped every believer with power more excellent than all the power of the enemy. Boy, someday , if anybody believes this.. .isn't that something?

' To do exceeding abundantly ' those words in the Aramaic are, ' to do for us even more excellent.' To do for us even more excellent, more abundant.

That ' exceeding abundance above,' ' exceeding above. ' Vincent translates it ' super abundantly.'

Wuest translates it, ' exhaustlessness.' Exhaustlessness. Exceeding some number or measure over and above more than necessary. Super abundantly beyond and over and above everything.

The word ' think' in the Aramaic is ' and we are thinking,' ' whatever you may be thinking. ' The word ' power' is again dunamis , the ' potential power.'

And the word ' worketh' is in the Aramaic, ' which is being worked.' ' Which is energized' in the Greek.

Wuest translates ' which is operative.'

The literal translation according to usage that I've done is as follows of verse 20: Now to Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly above all you ask or think according to the inherent power that is energized in you. That is the literal according to usage.

I forgot to tell you something that I should have remembered and I remember it now, so I'll tell you. In that verse 19, if you'll notice in King James it says, To know the love of Christ which passes knowledge. When I worked this, I showed it to you that it doesn't pass knowledge. I said, ' and you will know the greatness of the knowledge of the love of Christ.' I think many of us have thought that the love of Christ was so tremendous that there was no knowledgeable way of knowing it. The Word of God says, 'It is knowledgeable.'

And I can understand this in the light of which I've taught many times. You point your finger at someone else, you point three back at yourself. Look what God's forgiven you for. Has to be love. For a man to be dead in trespasses and sins... then even born again. That gives us knowledge that we can know the greatness of the knowledge. Doesn't pass knowledge that you can't know it. But we can know it: the greatness of the knowledge of the love of Christ.

Well, back to verse 20. I gave you the literal. I'll give you the expanded one: But to God... ' now unto Him' ... I translated it the expanded way... But unto God who is able and willing with more excellent power than all other powers to do for us even more abundantly, yes, over and above what we are asking for ourselves and what we are thinking according to the potential power of our believing which is constantly being energized in us. Kids, I think that is fantastic.

But to God who is able and willing with more excellent power than all other powers... there is no devil spirit any place in the world... he can be a five-star general. .. God' s a ten. See. All other powers don' t even get close to Him. The reason we see so much of these other powers taking over is because people aren't standing for the true God on their sonship rights, their power of attorney, everything else. And just say, Thus saith the Lord.

With more excellent power than all other powers to do for us even more abundantly, yes, over and above what we are asking for ourselves and what we are thinking according to the potential power of our believing which is constantly being energized in us.

Now verse 21 in King James. Unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

' Throughout all ages' is ' unto all the generations,' plural.

' World without end' in the Aramaic is 'of the worlds of the ages.' In the Greek it is 'of the age of the ages forever.' Perhaps it would be tremendous because of both the Aramaic and the Greek to translate it ' to all the generations of the ages of the ages.'

The word ' amen ' simply means ' thus shall it surely and truly be.'

In speech, you say ' amen' {long a}. In singing you say ' amen' {short a}.

Now the literal according to usage of this last verse of the conclusion of the greatest doctrinal section of God' s Word is: Glory to Him (God) in the Church by Christ Jesus.

I' d like for Craig to come in, please. Throughout all generations. That other phrase is not in the literal. The one I just gave you.

Glory to Him (God) in the Church by Christ Jesus throughout all generations, plural, generations, and all ages and ages forever. So be it.

Again, I'll read it to you. Glory to Him (God)... Glory to Him (God) in the Church by Christ Jesus throughout all generations and all ages and ages forever. So be it.

Today, I just finished reading our Research Team's tremendous manuscript on the usages of the words ' Jesus,' ' Jesus Christ,' ' Christ Jesus,' ' Lord Jesus Christ,' all of them. It' s just an unbelievable, wonderful piece of work that the Research Department gave to me. And reading this in here again, Glory to Him in the Church by Christ Jesus. I didn't put ' Jesus Christ.' I put 'Christ Jesus.' There' s a reason for it.

I told Walter a while ago, in the back, I said, it' s too good a piece of work to wait until Gmir is published. It' s got to go into Gmir, the research journal when that gets published. I guess that's coming out, Craig, around the 40th Anniversary or something, isn't it?

Craig: I think so.

Dr. Wierwille:   Barbara ought to know. Around the 40th• It' s got to go in there. That' s the kind of stuff that will make it the greatest research journal in the world. What they have done. But I can' t hardly wait that long. Got to get it in the Magazine or do something, so that the people have access to it. They have taken every verse of scripture where one or the other or combination of those names are used in the whole New Testament. Put it all together. It' s just a fantastic piece of work. And I loved it because I've been teaching the foundations of all of this for years. Now the Research Team just builds in the little odds and ends of the scriptures, and I like that. Boy, it's a great piece of work. I love it.

Well, anyways, that' s why ' Christ Jesus' is there. It emphasizes his greatness of his Messianic mission, Godly thing, rather than his humility or the humbleness of it. Glory to Him, to God in the Church by Christ Jesus, the anointed one, the Messiah, the promised one, God' s only begotten Son, throughout all generations and all ages and ages forever. So be it. See.

Here' s the expanded one: To God be the glory in His Church by Christ Jesus throughout all generations and ages of all ages forever. So shall it surely and truly be.

Again, To God be the glory in His Church by Christ Jesus throughout all generations and ages of all ages forever. So shall it surely and truly be.

Well, Craig, ha ha ha, that closes tonight, the greatest doctrinal section of God' s Word. And it closes with a prayer, with a benediction. And I know you have a tape you made of this prayer and I'd like for all the Corps to be listening to that tape that Craig made on this prayer within the next 24 hours. So all you campuses , be sure to set it up with the Corps, and you who are listening on the party line tonight, Dial-a-Corps night, make up your own mind what you' re going to do. I don' t know if it' s immediately available to you, but it' s a beautiful piece of work that Craig did on the prayer.

Now Craig, after I finish this tonight, I knew you were out of it a little while because of what you had to do, but, how do you feel about what we have just closed with here tonight, and the greatness of all this? Sort of put you on the spot...

Craig: I think ever since I first took the Class, of course Ephesians was the most exciting thing to me in which I read more of than anything. And then I got in the Corps, and same thing; tried to read it and work it and understand it a little bit. And then I know that five years ago, six years ago, when you taught Ephesians, those prayers in my life meant so much to me and just sort of emerged in such fantastic detail and brilliance. And then Dr. Wierwille asked me to share on what I understood about the prayers, which was a great privilege, which I did a while back.

All through Ephesians as I have had the privilege to sit in; I've haven' t hit every session because of travels and this sort of thing. But it again shows me the research ministry that we are. If anyone had the right to just come in here and talk off the top of his head, it' d be Dr. Wierwille. I mean he's worked this stuff a thousand, a thousand, that' s a figure of speech minimuminsio or something. [Laughter] I mean he' s worked this stuff. That' s a new one for Crouch to look up. But he's... and yet here it is again and I knew you had done that. He comes in and reads these literals and expanded versions. You know, he doesn't write in to The American Bible Society to get those, you know what.

I still think a lot of the Corps are under a delusion that... really I do... that a lot of you think you can just after a while, you sit down and talk off the top of your head. You don' t have to spend the hours in it. And that's ridiculous. It's...The more ability you get in the Word, the more responsible you are to spend more time in it. The motto of the Way Corps is again ' It is Written,' not, ' thou shall help people.' Stick that in you pipe and smoke it. The motto of the Way Corps is again the Word first and yet still so often we get so wrapped up in the work of this thing, we think it isn't. It is the Word of God first.

And you can't hitchhike through this thing. God is expecting to trust us with this Word and you can' t hitchhike through it. The Word says every man has got to bear his own burden. You've got to work it and make it your own. Put it in your head and heart and then hold it forth to the greatness of your ability. And again, the prayer tonight, really, I've read that prayer and worked these prayers a lot.

Nothing to compare as to what Dr. Wierwille has done, but a lot. And again, I'm just amazed at what. ..how much more is in there to see and understand, after tonight. It' s just scintillating, it's remarkable.

Dr. Wierwille: Yeah, I was. ..while you were talking, I was thinking, I got all these translations back there. And today again, I went through every one of them and really, there ' s not a one in here that really got to the great inner depth of this stuff that I believe is in there. I don' t know.

In verse 17, the greatest I saw of all of this which I worked tonight was the Weymouth ' s translation of verse 17. He got the closest to it. But Craig, they don't understand the difference between ' faith' and ' believing.' He doesn't. Otherwise it'd be a very great, fine translation.

Apprehend is ' to know in part.' ' May be strong to apprehend with all the saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height.'

The New English translates it, ' May you be strong to grasp with all God' s people what is the breadth, and length, and height, and depth.'

Rotherham translates it, ' In order that ye may be mighty enough to grasp firmly with all the saints what is the breadth, and length , and depth, and height.

And Darby translates it, ' In order that ye may be fully able to apprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length , and depth, and height.'

That's that 18th verse. Look what I did with that in that literal. I gave them a real understanding of this.
