A Man of Prayer
A Man of Prayer
Those who have succeeded to biblical proportions are generally men or women of prayer. Abraham, Moses, David, John, Peter and Paul to name a few. None of these quite measure up to Jesus Christ.
Many might think that the first begotten from the Lord would not really need to pray. On the contrary, because he had such a close connection, Jesus Christ was a dynamic man of prayer.
Mark 1:35 (King James Version)
And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.
Like you and I, Jesus Christ had to make decisions of what he would do during the day. Prayer was an important part of his life. He put forth the effort to get up early and put himself in a place where he could pray to His Father.
Luke 6:12 (King James Version)
And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.
Our lord and savior valued prayer and spend much time in prayer. The above record took place just before the important decision of selecting the twelve apostles from among his disciples. This is quite impressive, that he would spend all night in prayer to the Father.
Matthew 14:23 (King James Version)
And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.
The above prayer took place after the feeding of about “five thousand men, besides women and children.” Jesus Christ devoted time to pray. It was an important part of his lifestyle that he had time to pray. Jesus Christ not only demonstrated prayer’s importance but taught about it as well.
Luke 18:1 (King James Version)
And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;
There is no other finer example of encouragement to pray than the prayer life of Jesus Christ. He made sure he had the time to pray. When confronted with important decisions, he would take time to pray.
Let’s take advantage of our close relationship to the Heavenly Father and pray much.
“…men ought always to pray, and not to faint.”
Jesus Christ (Luke 18:1)
