CONTEXT- Preach and Preserve the Word vs. Turn from Truth

2 Timothy 4:1-18

1 I charge you in the sight of God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the living and the dead [after they are raised] at his appearing throughout and during the course of his kingdom: 2 Proclaim the Word, be constantly ready when it is convenient and when it is not
convenient, reprove, encourage, charge in detail with all longsuffering and with the proper doctrine [the Word]. 3 There will be a time when they will not tolerate the sound doctrine, but according to their own lustful desires they, with itching ears, will pile up [various] teachers for themselves. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and will be jerked aside to myths. 5 You, however, be clear-headed [sober] in all things; endure evils; do the work of an evangelist; carry out your ministry in full. 6 I am pouring out myself now,
and the time of my returning [to dust] is near. 7 I have contended in the good contest. I have finished the race. I have taken care of the household of faith. 8 Hence, a crown of righteousness is laid away in store for me which the lord, the righteous judge, will give me in that day [his return]; not to me only, but also to all who have loved [and longed for] his appearing. 9 Be diligent to come to me speedily, 10 for Demas, who loved the present age, left me and went to Thessalonica. Crescens went to Galatia and Titus to Dalmatia. 11 Only Luke is with me. Pick up Mark and bring him with you, because he is very beneficial to me for the ministry. 12 I have sent Tychicus to Ephesus. 13 When you come, bring the carrying case I left with Carpus at Troas, and the scrolls, especially the fine parchments. 14 Alexander the smith displayed much destructive evil against me. The Lord will pay him back for his works. 15 Guard against him yourself, for he strongly stood against our words. 16 No one stood with me in my first public defense. Everyone deserted me. 17 But the Lord stood beside me and infused me with inner strength, that the proclamation [of the Word] might be fully accomplished by me and that all the Gentiles might hear and that I would be rescued from the lion’s mouth. 18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil work and will preserve me for His heavenly kingdom. To Him be glory forever. Amen.
