7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.

7 I would not have had a personal experiential knowledge of sin and its influence on mankind except by the law, for I would never have been certain it was lust had not the law been given that stated, Thou shalt not covet.
